This beautiful, glittering Christmas tree ornament depicts Queen Victoria at the moment of her coronation. The Queen was crowned in Westminster Abbey in June 1838, while Dickens was living here at Doughty Street. He hired a room for the day to watch the procession walk by, though he was not especially impressed with it, writing in his later years, "I thought it looked poor in comparison with my usual country walk." 

Despite his lukewarm attitude to the monarchy, he was encouraged to meet Queen Victoria in 1870 and found, to his surprise, that he rather quite liked her. He sent her specially bound copies of his novels, "with my loyal duty and devotion," and made the extraordinary offer to share his stories with her "a little in advance of her subjects."
